Export & share
Share and PNG include the clinical note beneath the chart by default; "PNG chart only" leaves it off. Exports are always anatomically upright, even from the inverted BIO view. JSON is the re-editable record, small enough to store in the EMR against the encounter.
About OphthDraw
OphthDraw is a free, browser-based retinal drawing tool for ophthalmologists,
optometrists and eye care trainees. It replaces pen-and-paper fundus sketches with a
digital Amsler-Dubois retinal chart that uses the internationally standard
vitreoretinal colour coding: blue for detached retina and veins, red for attached
retina and haemorrhage, green for vitreous pathology, brown for choroidal lesions,
yellow for exudate and black for pigment and laser scars.
Document retinal detachment, horseshoe tears, round holes, giant retinal tears,
lattice degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, choroidal melanoma,
laser and cryotherapy treatment, scleral buckles and intraocular tamponade. The
tool writes a clinical note automatically as you draw, offers an inverted BIO view
matching the indirect ophthalmoscope, and exports to PNG for WhatsApp, email or
your EMR. It works on any phone, tablet or desktop, needs no account and stores no
patient information: drawings are anonymous by design.
Built by Dr Dean van der Westhuizen, specialist ophthalmologist
and vitreoretinal surgeon in Mbombela, South Africa, practising at the
Lowveld Eye Institute. Patient education videos on
YouTube — @eyedoctordean. OphthDraw is free to use and
share with colleagues. EMR vendors interested in embedding it can use the
integration option built into this page.
